Bengal mukhiya beaten by locals after month-long absence as intimate hotel photos go viral

The mukhiya of Bargachhia Gram Panchayat No. 1 in Jagatballabhpur block, Pooja Hajra, was physically assaulted by villagers in front of police when she tried to enter the panchayat office after being absent for over a month. Locals expressed dissatisfaction over disruption in services during her prolonged absence.

The incident followed the circulation of photos showing Hajra with an aide at a hotel in Digha. The images reportedly triggered anger among residents who have been waiting for resumption of panchayat activities and public services. Posters against Hajra appeared around the area after the assault.

Following the attack, Hajra stated, “As soon as I entered the office, I was attacked, even though police were present.” The Panchayat Samiti chairperson has assured that the issue will be addressed and steps taken to restore normal functioning of the panchayat and services to residents.
